Buzzbike vs Cycle to Work

Choose a scenario to explore the key differences:

Employee signs up to scheme

Buzzbike: We deliver their bike and kit the next day and help them get set up. The employee pays through salary sacrifice, and Buzzbike invoices monthly, with no cost to the company.

Cycle to Work: Typically, an employee must get a voucher from the company, take it to a bike retailer, select all the kit they need, then return the receipt. The company purchases the bike as a large up-front expenditure, and then recoups the cost over the next year (or longer).

Employee chooses a bike

Buzzbike: We have a single top-quality bike and package available, which we find is a great way to remove the complexity of buying a bike, particularly for new cyclists - 40% of our riders are new to cycling compared to 9% for Cycle to Work

Cycle to Work: Employees can choose their bike and equipment from whatever the retailer stocks up to £1,000.

Employee’s bike has a mechanical failure

Buzzbike: Our support team are a few taps away and will get them back on the road in no time.

Cycle to Work: Employee must fix the bike themselves or take it to a repair shop at their expense. They may lose the motivation to cycle.

Employee has bike stolen

Buzzbike: We’ll replace their bike and kit the next day, with only a £40 insurance excess cost.

Cycle to Work: Unless they have taken out insurance or they pay to replace it, the employee will be without a bike. Either way, their payroll deductions will continue for the remainder of their contract.

Employee leaves company

Buzzbike: The rider can choose between cancelling their subscription or continuing through a direct subscription to us.

Cycle to Work: The bike belongs to the employer, and they won’t recoup costs unless they sell the bike to the employee.

How do I know if my company has signed up?

The HR team should have promoted Buzzbike to Work as an available benefit. If you’re unsure, drop us an email and we’ll let you know.

How do I sign up as a rider?

If your company is signed up, you can head on to the signup page and enter your unique company code into the ‘Promo Code’ field.

Can a company outside London sign up?

Yes, absolutely. Give us a shout if you’ve got any questions!

There’s currently one model of Buzzbike, which you can check out here. In the next year we’ll be rollng out a new design with more sizes and gearing options.

What if we already have a Cycle to Work scheme?

Not a problem, Buzzbike to Work can simply be offered as another option to employees. It’s likely to suit a different kind of hopeful cyclist!
